Itchy Music Signs San Diego Rapper EddyK
The saying “youth is wasted on the young” does not apply when it comes to “tween-ager” Eddy Castillo. Known to the international music community as the second half of the rap-duo “Suede & EddyK”, San Diego-born Castillo knows the meaning of energy, stage dynamic and audience control. It is that self-propelled enthusiasm and humble, down to earth persona that makes him a memorable artist and a likeable guy. It also helps that he brings the A-game when the right people are watching, as was the case at a summer performance where the ambitious artist impressed Itchy Music CEO, Ed Fassio on first contact.
“We deal with a ton of performance-heavy acts,” explains Fassio. “When you are accustomed to watching five piece bands with smoke, lasers, choreography and costumes, it takes a lot for a new act to impress beyond the groove and throughout the display. But when Suede and EddyK took the stage that night at Hell’s Kitchen, it was immediately apparent (that Eddy in particular) was there to work.”
And work, he did. Leaving a lasting impression on and off stage, it didn’t take long for a business conversation to ensue, eventually materializing into an extended offer to join Itchy Metal as the 52nd artist and 5th hip-hop act on the Los Angeles label.
“This guy is the right attitude, fun and energy on stage and capable and respectful off of it,” continues Fassio. “I think many folks forget that half of doing business with someone is whether or not you like them and how they will ultimately represent an extension of your own business. In Eddy, we found a capable business partner and entertaining force on the microphone.”
With a more adult, Latino- Caucasian version of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, EddyK’s initial debut will reinforce the momentum currently found in his collaborative effort with label mate, Suede. The duo breaks the monotony of the current, hard-core dance saturation and simply puts the “fun” back into hip-hop. Keep on the watch for their debut IME release.
