For Los Angeles’ Itchy Metal Entertainment, finding unique elements in nonobvious corners has quickly become second nature. Since late 2010, the aggressive indie label has kept an eye and ear on the global, underground music movement – a journey which has networked the company across eight different countries, including the latest… India.
With an injection of western music since the 1960’s, India began to produce bands in various styles of rock music, which would eventually birth the region’s hard rock and metal sound. With the arrival of MTV, tastes rapidly changed, encouraging bands to unleash their aggression and develop underground genres such as death metal, alternative metal, and progressive rock. For these reasons the 1990’s saw the rise of a much larger following of various, heavier styles.
The result of five decades of exposure becomes immediately apparent in the city of Pune, where six students mesh their Far-East heritage with a love for heavy metal to produce an original, diverse blend of instrumentation known as Dark Helm. Included in the band are Shubhrayu – Bass, Ninad – Drums, Aniketh – Keyboards, Clinton – Guitars, Mohanish – Guitars, Raveesh – Vocals.
“I really enjoy the stage production of Dark Helm’s live performance but it’s the multiple layers of influence throughout their instrumentation that begins to illustrate the potential of this group,” states IME’s CEO, Ed Fassio.
Initial plans for the band include taking Dark Helm directly to an international audience already accustomed to multi-genre environments. With a global reach of millions and the marketing power of social media, the label feels confident of an effective introduction for the group.
